Paul has a national reputation as a motivational teacher working within the context of thought and language development through Drama.
Paul’s vast experience in all phases of education as a teacher and local authority adviser has enabled his own practice and the way he trains others to go to the heart of progression in learning and teaching.

His understanding of the way young people develop through active involvement in their learning draws upon transformative Drama education techniques and resources. Through his teaching, Paul provides a secure learning environment in which young people can explore, challenge and analyse texts and contexts while working in and out of role. The skills he brings to young learners are reflected in the professional development training he undertakes with teachers. Through this training, teachers establish their confidence in setting appropriate contexts in which their learners can work. He demonstrates how pupils develop roles and build narrative routes through texts, ensuring that they talk and write purposefully and use language to think critically. Teachers working with Paul talk not only strengthening their own Drama and English classroom practice but of meeting statutory and non-statutory requirements for Drama in the wider curriculum. |
Paul has been involved in the publication of a range of primary and secondary resources to support teachers in their work in this field. He co-authored NATE Drama-Packs published by the National Association for the Teaching of English, distributed to schools nationally by the National Strategies. The content of the Drama Packs' span young peoples novels, stage and screen adaptations, poetry and Shakespeare and address the transition from primary to secondary education. Paul also co-authored the pupil activities published in recent Heinemann Playscripts, "Coram Boy", "His Dark Materials" and "Starseeker" alongside the teaching units for these texts on the Heinemann website. Paul has contributed to "Drama for Writing" published in Northamptonshire to support primary teachers, including those working in the Foundation Stage, in the development of language through Drama. Paul's recent collaborations include the "Drama for Writing Two" publication and a series of teacher workshops with regional theatre companies. |
